Annie Capps

Singer, songwriter, performer, recording artist, and producer, Annie Capps has spent the past 4 decades forging her own unique genre-defying style, garnering 4 Folk Dj chart-topping albums and two Kerrville New Folk Finalist awards along the way. Best known for a long performing career with partner Rod Capps, Annie also wrote and produced a solo album released in January 2023 called “How Can I Say This?” which features over 40 women singers and musicians. An engaging stage presence and fun ‘off-the-cuff’ performance style complement her creative and thoughtful songwriting. Unafraid to be vulnerable and go deep, Annie always takes care to lighten up, so you get the feeling she’s saying it’ll be okay.

Annie has also made a name for herself as a community organizer and founder of a number of songwriting groups in SE Michigan and leading force behind the Folk Alliance Region Midwest where she served on the board and as President from 2009 – 2012 and more recently as Conference Director (2018 – 2022).

Artist Statement

As a songwriter, I value quality private time to immerse myself in the craft, whether it’s chasing an idea, fine-tuning my latest composition, or practicing my instrument. Finding this time is a luxury that I can’t always afford these days, so I hope to use my week in Good Hart to disconnect from the distractions that keep me from deeply focusing on my music the way I would like. I would love to come away with significant progress on Volume 2 of my 2023 all-women solo project “How Can I Say This?”.
