Claire Hodgdon
Claire Hodgdon is a Bay-Area born, Brooklyn-based writer and educator. She has an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University and a BA in English and American Literatures from Middlebury College. As a teacher, she has worked with programs and schools including The School of The New York Times, The Moth, and Columbia. Her writing has appeared in Electric Literature, Teen Vogue, Longreads, Pidgeonholes, and elsewhere, and been nominated for a Best of the Net award.

Artist Statement
While in residence, Claire will work on her first book: Having a Terrible Time, Wish You Were Here. This memoir-in-essays explores the aftermath of loss at a young age. The essay topics range from grief and mental health to fierce female friendships, from ongoing family dynamics to reconstructing a mother’s identity from archives she left behind. The book is about loss, healing, and connection.
