Position Description – Executive Director

Good Hart Artist Residency is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization located in Good Hart, Michigan. The mission of the Good Hart Artist Residency is to nurture artists, writers, and composers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines by providing artist residency and community engagement opportunities in the unique and inspiring landscape of Northern Michigan.

The Executive Director position is a full time salaried position that is responsible for managing the year-round operations of the artist residency program.

The duties of the Executive Director include:

  • Day to day operation of the artist residency program
  • Fundraising/Development
  • Development and implementation of community engagement events working with other area nonprofits and local schools
  • Development and management of volunteers
  • Management of the website and social media accounts
  • Marketing of the program and events
  • Management of the open calls for artists and the recruitment and coordination of jurors
  • Budget and financial management in coordination with the board of directors
  • Management of part-time staff and contractors
  • Participation in Board of Directors, and Community Advisory meetings

The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in the arts and/or nonprofit administration, successful development/fundraising experience, and experience in event planning and facilitation. Candidates should have the following skills:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fundraising experience
  • Grant writing experience
  • Event planning experience
  • Proficient with computers and online applications (Google Workspace, WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp, Quickbooks, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Experience managing social media accounts

Work is primarily remote but the candidate must be able to attend on average 4-5 events a month in the Northwest Michigan area, and at the residency in Good Hart (25 minutes north of Harbor Springs). Some evening and weekend work is required for the facilitation of events and meetings. Ideal candidates will reside in or near Emmet County.

Full time position – $60,000 – $75,000 per year depending on experience.

Position Description – Student Intern

Student Intern Position: The Good Hart Artist Residency (GHAR) is seeking a student intern to help with planning, coordination, and execution of events taking place in the summer 2026.

Compensation: The pay rate is $20.00 per hour for a maximum of 175 hours. Candidates must have their own transportation and be able to attend evening and weekend events in Northwest Lower Michigan. The contract begins on January, 14, 2026 and expires on August 25, 2026. The bulk of the hours will take place in June, July, and August. Hours for the planning and facilitation of the events will be reported weekly utilizing (GHAR) time recording system ClickTime.. Payment for work hours will be made on a monthly basis on the first Tuesday of the month.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination and communication with Sue Klco (GHAR Board Chair), and the Executive Director
  • Assist with artist residency operations
  • Assist in creating social media assets, news articles, and other print materials.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination for the events.
  • Assist in pursuing and securing business sponsorships for events.
  • Assist with the coordination of artists for events.
  • Distribute signs, brochures, and other materials for the Tunnel of Trees Art Trail.
  • Assist as needed to facilitate events, and attend all events.
