Artist Statement
Over the last fifteen years, I’ve made a wearable or performed quilt sculpture every few years, and activated it in its final form, and the last one has turned into a larger body of work that will end in a film. It’s called Lady of the Lake, the Monarch, and the Milkweed Baron. In the final iteration of this piece, I will have an exhibition of fiber and sculpture works that accompany the film, but do not appear in it. By the timeframe that I selected, March 2027, I’ll be editing footage and thinking about what kinds of objects the narrative inspires. While in residence, I’ll primarily work on a series of quilted wall pieces to accompany the film. I’ll also bring my camera, the character costumes and props for the possibility of adding winter scenes, and my analog sound equipment for developing the score: a few synthesizers, a sequencer, and a field recorder. The simple music setup in the house will come in handy.
