Sadia Khatri

Sadia Khatri is a writer, translator, and filmmaker. She writes about the lives of women in third world cities, and the ways that women disrupt the codes of respectability in public space, particularly in streets and shrines. In 2024, she received Orison Books’ award for best spiritual nonfiction writing. Sadia is translating the 16th century mystic poet Mirabai, and runs a film and translation project called Amrit Pyala, that documents mystic poetry and music in Pakistan. Sadia is from Karachi, and currently lives in Minneapolis, where she is doing an MFA in nonfiction writing at the University of Minnesota.

Artist Statement

Sadia will spend her time at the residency working on her nonfiction manuscript, a memoir about her relationship to Karachi, and the feminist and God-journeys that unfold in cities.
