Tyanna Buie
Buie, a Chicago/Milwaukee native, earned her BA from Western Illinois University and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has held residencies at the Joan Mitchell Center (New Orleans), the Women’s Studio Workshop (New York), Vermont Studio Center, Project 1612 (Illinois), and Hotel Pupik (Austria). Her honors include a 2012 Mary L. Nohl Fellowship, the Joan Mitchell Painters & Sculptors Grant (2015), the Kresge Artist Fellowship (2019), the Grant Wood Fellowship (2019/20), the Fellowship.art award (2020), and the Ruth Arts/Mary L. Nohl Alumni Award (2023).

Buie has presented solo exhibitions at the Freeport Art Museum (IL), South Bend Museum of Art (IN), The Alice Wilds (WI), and Materia Gallery (MI). She has also participated in group shows at Highpoint Center for Printmaking (MN), the Detroit Institute of Arts (MI), Cranbrook Art Museum (MI), RISD’s Chace Center Gallery (RI), cam.contemporarie, (IL), and more. Her works are in major institutional and private collections, and she has been featured in Hyperallergic, Essay’d, and New American Paintings (Issue No. 155). Currently, she serves as Associate Professor in Printmaking and Graduate Program Director at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI.
